'Two Fawnas' by Mary Flack
I'm a representational painter, in that my work always depicts something recognizable, but my main concern is not duplicating something precisely. Instead, I look for the emotional qualities in the scene, and try to emphasize those qualities through color and gestural brushwork.
I work primarily in oil paint. I'm fascinated with the process of painting; how it is cumulative from the initial drawing to the last detail. I like to leave evidence of some of that process showing through in the finished piece. You might see a bit of the underpainting or the initial drawing somewhere in the composition, along with more highly refined and finished areas of the piece.
