Social and Emotional Discovery for Toddlers
Toddlers experience social and emotional discovery daily, and they are picking up life skills and coping mechanisms along the way. Your toddler is learning language, which will (eventually) help {m:him}{f:her} to learn self control by being able to express an emotion, need or want, instead of throwing a tantrum. You can help your toddler learn about emotions by recognizing verbal and nonverbal cues--insights into how {m:he}{f:she} is feeling. Identify that emotion for your toddler with vocabulary and an explanation that feeling that way is normal. Your toddler will start to develop sharing and turn-taking skills, which require self control, memory and mental flexibility.
