Changing of the Guard
A London ‘must see' – if you actually get to see anything from among the crowds – the old guard (Foot Guards of the Household Regiment) comes off duty to be replaced by the new guard on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace. Tourists gape – sometimes from behind as many as 10 people, crowds can be almost as spectacular – at the bright-red uniforms, bearskin hats and full-on pageantry. The official name for the ceremony is Guard Mounting and it lasts for around 45 minutes.
