Dr. Farman Ali (Gastroenterology) needs a second opinion on this medical case.
The presentation of HCC has evolved significantly over the past few decades.
Whereas in the past, patients with HCC generally presented at an advanced stage, with right-upper-quadrant pain, weight loss, and signs of decompensated liver disease, HCC is now increasingly recognized at a much earlier stage as a consequence of the routine screening of patients with known cirrhosis, using ultrasonography with or without serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) measurements.
The diagnosis of HCC can often be established on the basis of noninvasive imaging, without biopsy confirmation.
Stay well, Stay smart.
